Birmingham Open Media - details
BOM is a centre for art, technology and science, dedicated to creative innovation with purpose. We explore how technology can be used as a tool for change, to make society a better place. Our interests and expertise are in neurodiversity and technology, how technology can help disadvantaged communities, and how it can be used to address environmental challenges.
Our approach is grassroots, DIY and collaborative. While we are based in central Birmingham, running exhibitions, events, educational programmes and a cafe, we also cultivate a network of creative practitioners, and facilitate digital innovation with communities both locally and across the world.
At the heart of BOM is a community of Fellows, a group of hugely talented artists, scientists and technologists, who use our studios and co-working spaces to develop innovative and impactful work. The BOM Fellows all fuel, and are fuelled by, BOM’s ethos and help us achieve our mission.

BOM - history
Birmingham Open Media opened at the corner site of Dudley Street and Hinckley Street in 2015. It was previously an unloved part of Birmingham, until 2014 this was a shop called It's A Knock Out The Best Shop in Town. Although it had closed down by 2008, and these units were available to let until BOM moved in around January 2015. Urban Coffee Company was briefly here, but they relocated to another part of the City Centre.

Bit of a rebrand from Birmingham Open Media to the abbreviation BOM in the summer of 2018. It looked like it was having a bit of a refit as well at the time.
